Old Gems

Madge Sinclair the shining star

Michael Abbensetts has always created powerful drama out of the angst of West Indian immigrants, Often it's an angst tied to their reasons for leaving home , but complicated by the problems of coping in a strange environment. It doesn't help, either, that these characters find themselves part of the minority culture.

In the Heart of the City

(PANMEDIA FEATURES): - Nothing in Jamaica liberates the senses or raises the rhythm quite like Kingston, its capital. Negril is naughty, Ocho Rios is gorgeous and Montego Bay has much Caribbean charm. Lime Cay Orgy Tonight

There's an orgy tonight at Lime Cay. There may be others simultaneously in Negril, Mobay and Discovery Bay. Organizers expect a few dozen people to show up, mostly to watch. The hard core action is an annual affair, says Judith Mendes, a marine biologist, but it only lasts about half an hour.

What Prevents Children from learning

New technologies and media may expand minds and encourage virtual learning, but they do little to help children with schoolwork. Kingston Alive

Kingston:--This city differs sharply from the Jamaica that Madison Avenue sells the world. Physically and psychically removed from the island's pristine North Coast many Americans know, neither the real nor the romanticized Kingston bear relation to the rest of the island. The difference seems more than what a capital usually represents. It's organically removed from the rest of the country, and could well be somewhere else in the world. Almost like New York's relationship with the rest of the United States, Kingston has a life separate and apart from Jamaica.
